A Dream come True: Kayden’s Calgary Equine grad session
I was thrilled when Kayden reached out to me about doing a graduation session with not one but two horses. As someone who never outgrew her horse-crazy phase, and who still rides regularly, this was a dream come true. When I heard about her plans, I was all in, ready to capture every moment of this special Calgary equine grad session.
From Rainy beginnings to Stunning Equine Elegance
The start of the summer in Alberta was unusally rainy which meant we had to reschedule our Calgary equine grad session a few times. But june finally brought the perfect conditions for our session. On the day of the shoot, I faced my worst fears: a downpour just as I began the one and a half hour drive to Calgary. Despite the rain my excitment for the session kept me going.
When I arrived in Calgary the rain was still falling. But Kayden was incredibly patient and maticulous, making sure her horses, Classy and Tex were looking their absolute best. Classy is Kayden’s reliable childhood horse, seasoned and unfazed by anything. While Tex is her new mount, a striking off the track thoroughbred. Miraculously as if on cue, the skies cleared just as Kayden was finished grooming and getting all glammed up. It was a perfect stroke of luck that allowed us to proceed with the shoot as planned.
Joining us for the session were Kayden’s mom and grandmother. It’s always a pleasure to work with family members who bring their own special energy to the shoot. Their presence made the day even more memorable and and personal.
Since I had previouly shot at St. George Stables, I had a few ideas in mind for locations. We got to capture images in two spectacular spots. We wrapped up the shoot with some striking black background shots that added a dramatic flair to the end of the session.
This grad shoot was a beautiful blend of patience, persistance, and passion for horses. I’m so greatful for the opprotunity to work with Kayden and her family and to capture this significant milestone in such a unique and meaningful way.
